Hello, Fellow Picklers!

The summer group play is nearing ever closer, at this point we are planning on having Week 1 of 5 start on June 14th.  Matches will not be scheduled for the week of July 4th.

Teams have one week to get all their matches in.  Play starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday each week..

Week 1 June 14 - June 20

Week 2 June 21 - June 27

Week 3 June 28 - July 3  this is a bye week and there is no play

Week 3 July 5 - July 11

Week 4 July 12 - July 18

Week 5 - July 18 - July 25

Banquet location and date TBD - Brad will direct the banquet and will let us all know the details.

Each Team will have six scheduled team matches for this summer's group. Each team will consist of approximately 11 players.   Skill levels will also be varied for each team.  The goal is to have evenly played matches each week.

Each week a team will provide 6 men players and 6 women players for the scheduled matches. The matches will be organized as follows :

  • Each team provides players:

    • Two men’s doubles teams = 4 men. (One A Team and One B Team)

    • Two women’s doubles teams = 4 women. (One A Team and One B Team)

    • Two mixed teams - (2 men and 2 women.) (One A Team and One B Team)

  • Please remember that stronger players should be placed in the A positions with developing players in the B positions. This way matches will have matching skill levels as much as possible.

Each match the Franklin X-40 pickleballs will be used.  Players are responsible for providing their own new ball.  Each player should bring one of these balls with them for each match so that 2-4 balls are available.  The Franklin X-40 yellow ball is available at Walmart, Amazon, Target, Dicks, and Academy Sports.

Players are responsible for reserving their own courts each week. Do not ask captains to schedule your matches.  If you are not a member of Melvin Park there is a $5.00 fee per day.

You can call Melvin Park (which is really Crooked Creek) at 803-345-6181 to pay your court fee, or pay at the Melvin Park office.  Members play free. It would be easiest if park members from each team reserve courts, either online or by calling Crooked Creek.  ***Please do not use the term “league match” - this is a group.  Just reserve a court with no additional elaboration.

Players are to report scores to their captains immediately after the match.  A text would be best.  Please remember your scores.  Once scores are reported to captains, the captains will notify either Rod team 5 and 6, Brad teams 1 and 2, or Renee teams 3 and 4.  These three will assure scores are logged on the master scoreboard, and uploaded to the online site via the melvinpb.com website.

We are asking each team to give themselves a team name.

LASTLY:

This is a FUN event with some moderate competition cooked into the matches.  Please show sportsmanship, and smile as often as you can on the courts….Remember - “This is REC PLAY PICKLEBALL!”

“Carpe Diem”
